Otterly.ai is a Vienna-based GEO platform that has grown faster than almost any vendor in the category. Co-founded in 2024 by Thomas Peham, Klaus-M. Schremser and Josef Trauner, the company launched its AI search monitoring product in October 2024 and crossed 10,000 users by September 2025. It was named a Gartner Cool Vendor for AI in Marketing in 2025 and a G2 High Performer in the Answer Engine Optimization category in Winter 2026.
The pitch is positioning, not feature parity. Otterly is the budget-friendly, fast-to-deploy alternative for SMBs, solo marketers and agencies that want to track AI visibility without an enterprise contract. At $29/month for the entry tier, it's the cheapest paid option in the directory after HubSpot's free grader.
What it does well
The clearest strength is time-to-value. Operator reviews on G2 (4.9/5 average) and on independent walkthroughs consistently note that the first brand reports surface within an hour of signup. The setup flow walks new users through their seed prompts, generates the initial reports, and is then running on a daily tracking cadence — no implementation engineer required.
The platform tracks four answer engines in every tier: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Google AI Mode and Google Gemini are available as paid add-ons. For each tracked engine, Otterly produces a Brand Report showing brand mentions, brand coverage, domain citations, link position changes over time, and competitive share of voice. Tracking runs daily by default.
Three features are worth flagging:
- GEO Audit Tool, launched in September 2025, runs automated audits across up to 1,000 / 5,000 / 10,000 URLs per month (Lite/Standard/Premium) to identify pages and structure that are likely to be cited by answer engines.
- AI Prompt Research Tool suggests new prompts to track based on industry and brand context.
- Google Looker Studio Connector (Standard and Premium only) pulls AI search visibility data directly into Looker Studio for custom reporting — a meaningful differentiator versus competitors who only export CSV.
Otterly's published customer list — Opera, Avis Budget Group, Sportradar, Storyblocks, A1 Telekom Austria, SmartRecruiters, VisitDenmark, AUTO1 and others — is heavier on European and mid-market brands than the typical US-centric GEO vendor list. For agencies and brands operating outside the Fortune 500, that signals a vendor that understands their context.
What it doesn't
Otterly's biggest gap is engine coverage. The four tracked engines on every tier do not include Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, or Meta AI. Gemini and Google AI Mode are extra add-ons priced from $9/month on Lite up to $149/month on Premium. For a buyer who needs Claude or Grok tracking — increasingly important in technical and developer-marketing contexts — Otterly is not the right tool today.
Tier limits at the entry level are tight. Lite ($29/month) caps at 15 search prompts, three recommendations per month, and a single workspace. That's enough to monitor one brand and a small handful of category prompts, but not enough for a real keyword/prompt portfolio. Standard ($189/month) opens that up to 100 prompts and unlimited workspaces, which is the realistic working tier for an SMB taking GEO seriously.
There's a documented but inconsistent gap between Otterly's measurement and downstream business outcomes. A Reddit thread that surfaces in operator forums describes a tester running Otterly alongside competing tools across multiple months and finding no consistent correlation between increased AI brand mentions and increases in traffic or conversions. That critique applies to the GEO category broadly more than to Otterly specifically — LLM outputs are stochastic and personalized, so any tool's mention counts will be directional — but buyers expecting Otterly's data to map cleanly to revenue should calibrate expectations.
Reviews outside G2 (4.9/5) and Product Hunt are still sparse. Capterra coverage is thin, and Reddit volume is below what you'd expect for a tool with 10,000 users — something likely to improve as adoption grows but worth noting today.
Who should use it
Otterly is the right tool for buyers who want broad-enough engine coverage at a budget price and value usability over feature breadth. The buyer profile that fits cleanly:
- Solo marketers, content teams and small agencies running their first GEO program.
- Mid-market brands whose AI visibility budget is $30–$500/month, not four-figures.
- Teams whose target engines are ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot — i.e., the engines most consumer-facing brands actually need to track.
- Agencies that need a white-label-ish workflow via Looker Studio dashboards on Standard or Premium, plus the Agency Partner program (which adds extra prompts and pitch workspaces).
- Teams that want to be running within an afternoon, not after a six-week implementation.
- European brands and agencies that prefer working with an EU-based vendor.
For a directory user evaluating their first GEO purchase under $200/month, Otterly Standard is the most defensible choice in the directory.
Who should skip it
Otterly is the wrong tool for buyers in any of the following situations:
- Need Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Meta AI tracking. None of these engines are available in any Otterly tier as of May 2026. Profound, Peec AI and Athena HQ cover more engines.
- Need panel-derived prompt volume data. Otterly tracks the prompts you give it; it does not surface what real users are actually asking ChatGPT. That's Profound's Prompt Volumes territory.
- Enterprise compliance requirements (formal SOC 2 documentation, SSO/SAML across the org). Otterly has an Enterprise tier with SSO and custom payment options, but its compliance documentation is thinner than enterprise-grade alternatives.
- Free-only buyers. HubSpot's AEO Grader is genuinely free.
- Buyers who want execution, not just measurement. Otterly produces recommendations on Standard and Premium tiers, but it isn't a content-generation platform. Frase is closer to that brief.
