The Answer Engine Report

Methodology

How tools are selected, evaluated, and scored — and how affiliate relationships are disclosed

Operator note: rewrite this in your voice once you've done the first round of evaluations. The structure below is what Google's E-E-A-T guidelines reward — keep the section headings, replace the prose with what you actually do.

What gets included

A tool is included in this directory if all of the following are true:

  • It's a commercial software product (or a free tool from a credible vendor) that explicitly addresses GEO, AI search visibility, LLM brand monitoring, or generative engine ranking.
  • It's actively shipping. If a vendor's website hasn't been updated in six months and there's no public sign of life, the tool gets archived.
  • It can be evaluated independently — meaning either a free tier, trial, demo, or enough public material to draw a defensible conclusion.

I exclude: agency services dressed up as "tools," generic SEO products that retrofitted an "AI" label without changing the underlying behavior, and anything that won't let me see the product without a sales call gating the trial.

How tools are evaluated

Each review reflects hands-on time in the product where possible, plus careful reading of the vendor's own documentation, pricing pages, and changelog.

The score (1-10) is editorial — it weighs:

  • Coverage breadth — how many LLMs the tool monitors, and how recently
  • Data quality — sample size, polling cadence, how mention extraction is handled
  • Pricing fit — whether the price reflects the value at the smallest tier most readers will buy
  • Workflow integration — how easily insights actually reach the team that needs to act on them
  • Track record — how the tool has evolved over time, and how the team responds to issues

Scores are not a Google review. A 7.5 from this site is meaningfully different from a 7.5 from a vendor's testimonials page.

How often things are updated

  • Pricing is reviewed at least monthly. If a tool ships a major release or a price change between scheduled reviews, the entry gets updated immediately.
  • Reviews are revisited on the same cadence as the underlying product. A tool that ships weekly gets re-evaluated on a quarterly rhythm; a tool that ships annually gets revisited annually.
  • The "last updated" date at the top of any page reflects the most recent change to that page's data.

Affiliate disclosure

This site participates in affiliate programs. When a tool offers one and we've been approved, the "Visit site" buttons route through an affiliate link. If a reader signs up after clicking, we may earn a commission.

What that does not affect:

  • Which tools are listed
  • The score or verdict assigned to a tool
  • The order tools appear in the comparison table
  • Whether we recommend or warn against a tool

Tools without an affiliate program are linked directly. We list and review them on identical terms to tools that pay us. The most-recommended tools on this site at any given time are not necessarily the highest-paying — and a few of the highest-paying have explicit "skip" verdicts.

If you spot a conflict between a verdict and a commission incentive that suggests we got it wrong, I want to hear about it. See the About page for contact details.

Corrections

If a vendor or reader finds a factual error — wrong pricing, wrong feature claim, missing model coverage — flag it and I'll update within seven days. Substantive corrections include a note on the affected page recording what changed and when.
